Frizzled

i've been flash-fried by the past couple of weeks.
Tired but happy.
Gimme a few... i'll be back.

While you're waiting, here's a couple pics of yours truly from Fla.

Whoops!

So yesterday the snow began to fall... we were expecting 4-6". It fell fast and the roads were very slick. One result? i had about half of my usual class attendance.

In lieu of a full lesson plan i redirected their energies into a fun activity. Each student wrote their own personal spell... OOPS... blessing! starting out in the traditional Hebrew and switching to English for the remainder of their thoughts... to ask HaShem/Deity/the Universe for a snow day!

We all agreed that our finished blessings should go under our pillows for the night... while they slept with their pajamas on inside out! To their credit not one student simply said "please can we have a snow day tomorrow?", but rather many of them went on to say that they wished their fathers would also not have work so that they would stay home and play with them.

It was a quite the moment for me to be privy to their thoughts and verbalizing their need for family time. Have i mentioned how much i adore teaching these children?

In any case... we only got 3-4" of snow, the roads aren't that bad, temps not that cold, plows have already come down the secondary subdivision streets... AND... IT'S A SNOW DAY!!!
Those kids are some powerful magicians!
P.S. i wasn't wishing for a snow day. It's the last class period rehearsal before the Florida trip! We'll make phone calls a little later today. sigh.

melancholia

There are few things in this world worse than disappointing your own children. i was late to pick them up last night. Late because i was enjoying my time elsewhere and let time get away from me. my fault.

When i falter in the faith they place in me, i hurt myself more than i can know... but i do know, and in that moment when i realized that i was late i cared nothing for myself but only for them. It was irresponsible of me to be late and it won't happen again.

Moms aren't supposed to be human - they're better than that - just ask any child.

Disappointments seem to be piling up on me...
AND there's a skunk-like smell in my car (which #1 says smells like greek salad dressing, but only on the passenger seat by the headrest) wtf?!
AND i have terrible veins in my leg
AND i've helped someone i love to revisit hell....

Can i do nothing right lately???

really? i want to crawl back under a rock.

T -5 and Counting

Have i mentioned that i'm the head chaperone for the HS choir's (1 & 2's choir) performance tour again? my last adventure in this role was to England and Wales with 23 students and was a smashing success. In comparison to that this one's easy, but still frought with details and busywork as it approaches... and it's approaching fast!

5 days til we leave for Rat World. One water park, all four major parks, one amazing performance to put on and Cirque DeSolei (LaNouba)... PLUS a Disney workshop backstage AND a workshop with performers from Cirque DeSolei... all in five days.

If that isn't enough fun for one woman (and her two offspring).... we have approximately a 12 hour turn-around to get to our annual conference!

Posting's gonna be a little sparse (of course when i say that i post more so who knows). We'll all be back on track on the 26th. Wish me luck!

Spellwork

Two days since posting about wearing pajamas inside out and no one's asked anything about it. Either no one reads my words or ...
EVERYONE practices this little bit of spellwork!
How very COOL.

Today's Factoid

"Exposed skin can freeze in under 10 minutes at temperatures causing wind chill factors of -25F."

In other words: Had no school today. Have no school tomorrow.
It's not even as much fun as a "Snow Day" because it's too cold to be outside!

Wow. And we didn't even have to wear our pajamas inside out!

Still waiting to see if I have to teach tomorrow.

In the spirit of staying warm... C'mon Brighid!!!

we knit for i knit

Wednesday eve was the I Knit gathering and we did! The group of 8 of us knit 12 squares during the party. More squares are being brought to the Imbolc ritual tomorrow. Yay us! It was a wonderful time.

i was joined by M who learned (re-learned?) to knit under my instruction. i'm so NOT a knitting instructor! But he managed to follow my direction and he was off and knitting. For a beginner working with size 8 needles (pretty small) it was really quite impressive! Above is the pic of the square we made together.
